5 on a Friday!

{ONE}
I spent last weekend living it up in Charleston with Manda & Christa! a) What an awesome city! We had a blast! Plus, anytime brunches & mimosas are involved I'm happy. b) Isn't blogging so awesome to bring us together? Christa doesn't blog herself but she's been reading mine forever and we finally got to meet for the first time last Nov for our blogger Nashville trip. Manda and I have had several adventures together too! Gotta love the internet & internet besties! If you follow me on Instagram {@nikkib918}, then you probably got your fair share of pictures. But I have to say, one of my favorite parts was the FOOD!
Because shrimp & grits is the BEST, especially with hushpuppies, boiled peanuts and a beer! This is from Hyman's downtown, and I would HIGHLY recommend that place!
{TWO}
Have y'all seen/heard the buzz about this?? Yeah NBD Lil Jon is just a Vols fan now! #ThirdDownForWhat    All I have to say is, FLORIDA IS GOING DOWWWWN this year! I cannot even handle the excitement!! #VFL

{THREE}
iPhone 6 iPhone 6 iPhone 6! Let's all chant it together! I'm going to get mine this weekend and if I wasn't crunk enough already about Florida game weekend, then this is really pushing me over the edge. I'm still rockin' the sad little 4s from 2011. I am definitely due for an upgrade!

October is breast cancer awareness month! My mama is a breast cancer survivor! I've already pro-actively had my first mammogram 2 years ago, at the advice of my doctor based on the age my mom was when she got sick. Also, my cousin who is a survivor - and is an amazingly strong woman and former Lady Vol basketball player- had this neat write up about her yesterday in our local paper.  So do yourself a favor, and feel yourself up this month to make sure you're good! And take advantage of the extra reason to wear pink!

And in case you needed some Amy Poehler wisdom to get you through your weekend - here you go.

American Blogger - Your Story

Buckle up for a loooong post - consider yourself warned!
Have y'all seen this trailer for the American Blogger documentary? Take a minute to watch it and let's discuss...

If you're like me then you recognized some of these faces, and when you take a minute to look under the Meet the Bloggers tab, then you recognize even more of their names. Telling your story - your funny little day to day stories and your big life changing moments on your blog is such an important thing. People poke fun at bloggers, but they have no idea the friendships we form and how lasting they can be.

Blogging is hard to describe to people in your real life. I've told this story in some form before, but I had a friend who started a blog waaay back in 2006 because she was moving away. That was my introduction to blogging. It was a simple online journal of her journey. She had a couple girls that she connected with via the internet and I started to read their blogs too. I've always been a reader, but reading someone's first hand account of their life story seemed like such a cool concept to me. Then about 2011 I decided that maaaaybe I had a few stories in me to tell. I had no idea how to start, knew very little about HTML and it took me days to think up a name. But in it's own little way The Pink Growl was born. Through SITS girls and link ups, I began to meet girls, make connections and form friendships. We skyped, we emailed, we talked on the phone and sent each other gifts through the mail. It was a little strange, but at the same time fulfilling.

Not too long later, I got engaged. And my blog friends shared in my excitement. I had about 350 GFC readers at that point (give or take). I was caught up in a season of excitement and did posts about Our Love Story and wedding planning and really began to open up and share deeper parts of my story. My numbers began to grow because let's face it, girls love wedding talk. But I also ventured into talking about my mom being sick, and my mamaw passing away, my dad's by-pass surgery and other topics that I really just needed to blow off steam about. Then off a sudden in November 2012, my world fell apart when my engagement ended. My blog had grown into this portrait of a happy life as a future cop's wife, and now that identity no longer existed. I felt lost, not just in my day to day life, but in blog land as well. Where did I go from here? Most of the people I followed were in the same stages of life as I was and I couldn't bear to read about their wedding planning or marriages at that point. I did a breakup post, and was ready to shut this thing down.

Enter Kim, Cassie & Erin. These girls refused to allow to let me sink away into the darkness. They pursued me (for lack of a better word). They were relentless in sending messages of hope, love packages, and telling me their stories of struggle. Blogging is incredible y'all. You can doubt it all you want to, and that's fine. But these girls kept me going. I have tears welling up in my eyes right now just remembering how that felt to me. People in my real life were upset with me, choosing sides, saying hateful things about me and these girls were there to pick me back up - day after day. They were a source of strength for me at a time when I needed it most. I had my first blate with Kim & Cassie in Jan 2013, and the rest is history. I talk to them constantly. I've met their families, we've met each other's friends, they are a huge part of my life.

You find bloggers who inspire you and bloggers who are JUST LIKE you...ahem Manda! You "meet" girls who you have zero qualms about driving across states to hang out with. My dad still has a hard time with that concept...

My blog has since transformed into a place where I can tell you all the exciting things God is doing in my life, all my funny dating stories and throw out pictures of Luke Bryan until you are sick of seeing him (if that ever happens, we might not be friends anymore...). But my #1 goal is to keep it real. And real is NOT always an easy story to tell. Blogging has allowed me to document this life change - the good, the bad and the reeeeeally ugly - and it's pretty incredible to look back on. I'm kinda proud of myself honestly.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, I love blogging. Somehow you crazy people are interested enough in what I have to say to keep coming back every week. That's pretty awesome and I love you for it! So even when we feel like we aren't making a difference, we are. Even when we get stagnant and just do silly posts, people are still following our lives and reading our stories. TELL YOUR STORY!!

Last Random Wednesday for 2013

You like that creative title, don't ya?? My homegirl Shanna is having her last Random Wednesday link up for 2013 so I had to jump in there with her. Plus, I have LOTS to update you on! Can you believe that one week from today is Christmas Eve? Go home 2013, you are DRUNK and have flown by.

Let's start with my Louisville trip - It was sooo amazing! A 4 day weekend was JUST what this girl needed to recharge myself before the holidays. Manda and I had a little alcohol fueled fun! We hit up the Marker's Mark Distillery tour and got to taste lots of yummy bourbon and of course ended our weekend with Mr. JT. Here's my weekend recap via IG pics {nikkib918}

Found my old Britney's Greatest Hits cd for the 3.5 hour drive up! #it'sbritneybitch

Manda took me to her church Sunday and it was so awesome! I loved the service, and they have a coffee bar!

Long weekends are the best, but coming home is nice too. I still have plenty of Christmas shopping to do, and lots of volunteer work coming up for our Christmas stuff at church so I'll be a busy little bee the next week.

I just want to take a moment and count my blessings. Things are in such a good place in my life right now. So much different from where I was just one year ago. My work is amazing and big changes are coming, but I am so excited for new opportunities. My family is actually good too. We are getting along and my mom is feeling pretty good. My brother and I are talking again and that just makes my soul happy. My church family is seriously the very best. I love the people God has put in my path! My friends are amazing - real life & bloggy. God has filled my heart with so much joy. I can't help but spew about it.

And speaking of joy....I got these babies in the mail over the weekend. Sweet Erin's hubby made these for me! I have been lusting over earrings like these on Etsy for over a year but never took the plunge. The best news is: if you like these and want to purchase some YOU CAN for only $10 here.

Weekend Update

Sami's Shenanigans

It's MONDAY! I'm really not even mad about because it's a short week and I know we can all survive this one. Last night I went to see Catching Fire - OH MY GOSH it was amazing! I would say it's one of the very BEST movies based on a book series that I have ever seen. The movie captures the emotion from the book so well! Not gonna lie, I cried like 5x! And you know on Friday when I was talking about my crush on Peeta? I just don't think I'll be able to date again until Peeta comes along in my life. I wish I was kidding. Don't get me wrong, Gale is HOT (helllllllo single Liam!) but Peeta just has my heart.

Now I am going to overload you with my Nashville pictures from the blate girls weekend! It was SO MUCH FUN!!!!! (and very very cold!) These girls are so amazing and it's crazy how you can become so close with people you've never met, and then when you met them it feels like you've known them your whole life. I am blessed with the BEST bloggy BFFs! You can find me on Instagram {@nikkib918}

5 on a Friday

{ONE}
If you are single...I know you are out there wondering if you can  truly be comfortable without a boyfriend. Go read Juliette's post NOW. This girl has been spot on recently with her single lady wisdom. It's so nice and refreshing to hear these things, and know that she really means it. Plus, she's down right hilarious!

{TWO}
Fun Fact: I like to start dating people on major holidays. Skye and I started dating at Christmas 2003 then didn't talk for 10 months and reunited at Christmas 2004. You can read that story here. (not sure why you would want to at this point, but I did write about it). My first serious boyfriend and I started dating on Thanksgiving 2001 (date was 11/22/01). Holiday dates are my thing apparently.

{THREE}
Today is the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination. 11/22/1963 is a date that I am all too familiar with, considering I am essentially a Kennedy freak. Their whole family has always been of interest to me, but specifically this tragic event and all the conspiracy surrounding it. It's such a scary thought! And a fateful day in our history.

{FOUR}
 It's Catching Fire weekend FINALLY! I went back this week and re-read the book because I couldn't remember all the little details. So glad I was able to do that before going to see the movie. I have such a crush on Peeta in this book! (sorry but not in the movie, Josh Hutcherson just doesn't do it for me)

{FIVE}
NASHVILLE HERE I COME!!! I'm beyond excited for my girls weekend away in NashVegas!!! I'll be reunited with my STL babies Kim & Cassie and finally get to meet Manda and the lovely Jackie! (Plus, my non bloggy friend Christa is coming from GA too!) My girls, my boots  and booze is all I will need! And apparently maybe a jacket since it's supposed to be quite cold. Let the fun begin!

Weekend Shenanigans

Sami's Shenanigans

I'm in an "I hate Monday's" mood today! I only got maybe a couple hours of sleep last night. My weekend in sports was heartbreaking! My Vols fought SO HARD on Saturday and they deserved to win that game, but sadly ending up losing 34-31 in OT to Georgia. It's been a very long time since I've seen Neyland Stadium that excited though. Then the Braves last night, I mean what the hell kinda joke was that?? Torture. My poor voice has suffered this entire weekend.

BUT I got the spend alllllll day Saturday with my love bug Alexa so I really can't complain! You know when you picture a bloggy friend in your head? Well Alexa (& Glenn) were EXACTLY how I pictured them - Extreme Vol fans, fun loving, hilarious, pretty people, perfect couple, sweethearts. I felt like I had known them for years and we had so much fun together! Despite the sweat we endured on Saturday, we had AMAZING seats for the game! I miss them already!! Blogging is such an amazing thing how it can bring two people together who were just meant to be friends in real life. I am blessed with THE BEST bloggy loves!!

Excuse my obscene boobs in this picture...it's just the way I was sitting I think...

VIP Friends & Family Seats on the 40 yard line, about 20 rows up - PERFECT SEATS to watch our boys play their hearts out!

We met up with Lauren & Erin on Market Square for drinks after the game. Such a fun night and we talked about everything under the sun! Love these ladies!

Can we go back to the weekend already? I don't want to play work today! COFFEE ME UP!

Weekend Shenanigans - Down Down Baby Yo Street in a Range Rover

Sami's Shenanigans

Paint me pink and call me exhausted because that's exactly what I am today! I really hate it when you have a pretty much perfect weekend and it has to come to an end. Then you have to face Monday again, ugh!!!!

If you follow me {nikkib918}, Kim or Cassie on Instagram then you should know by now that we had ourselves quite a good time this weekend. St. Louis was SO MUCH FUN!! These are my girls, I feel so close to them and I miss them already! I wish they lived just a little bit closer so we could meet up more often! The only disappointment was that I did not manage to track down Nelly in person....I mean when in STL, right??? However, everytime we were in a bar and one of his songs came on I went nuts.

Here are some pics of our shenanigans -
Starting the trip off right with a beer from Tootsie's in the Nashville airport!
Reunited at last with my Yankee girl!! We had a complete lovefest in the airport when she picked me up!
Friday night we went downtown STL to an amazing bar called PaddyO's right beside Busch Stadium. This bar was HUGE and so much fun. Not to mention there were soooo many cute boys!
Round 2 on Saturday night!
This is one of my favs! I seriously love these two!
Even in the Midwest, we go out with our boots on!
Mandatory STL arch picture

My girls were great hostesses! We did a little downtown action Friday night, then Saturday we hit up more local AKA affordable bars. We ended Saturday night with lots of dancing and backroading...it was perfect!

And now to tackle my work emails from Friday....
did I already say ugh???
