3 of my gal pal co-workers and I have decided to start doing a little 15 minute devotional on Tuesday & Thursday mornings before the hustle and bustle of our work day begins. This might sound a little "preachy" but I just wanted to share this with you because it helped me today. I know I am in NO position to be giving our spiritual guidance. My life is the definition of a hot mess right now, but if it helps me then it might help someone else.
We are just doing the free YouVersion app of the Joyce Meyer's Promises For Your Everyday Life. I've mentioned here before that I am not the most spiritual person you will ever find. I am sometimes ashamed to admit that you will not find me in church every Sunday, or even most Sundays. But I am a firm believer and a child of God. I make mistakes and He forgives me, one of those being not being a close enough follower during the good times. I am going to try my best to make a conscious effort this year to grow my relationship with God.
Today's devotion spoke to that subject exactly and it just struck a chord with me so I wanted to share that thought with you. We always turn to Him when times are tough in our lives, when we need comfort or support; we undoubtedly know He is there. But do you talk to God when you are happy, excited, anxious or complacent? As a girl who has overcome so many obstacles in my life, I take comfort in a higher power who is always in control. Keyword: always. He is in control of the good & the bad.
Helpful tip: Instead of talking through a situation today with yourself or your best friend - talk it through with God. Let go and let God take that control. All my Type A girls know this one is rough, but even just making that effort will help relieve so much of our stress.

Oh girl, I needded this. I need to download that app! Our preacher preached on the same message Sunday of 'always'. Boy, did it hit me! Hard!
This is sooo true!! Love it!! I am guilty of the same thing. I am working on improving it but know that I will never be the go to church every Sunday girl but I make my own relationship with God.
Joyce is my girlllllll. Wouldn't get through life without her. Girlfriend knows how to break it down.
I need to work on being less cynical because I know God is not pleased with that. He is restoring that part of my heart.
Beautiful post. Really.
I'm so glad that you decided to share this post with us- it's a reminder I think most people need! I know it's good for me to think about. Thanks for sharing!

I love the idea of a tues/thursday devotional. I also use the Youversion app and have completed two other devotionals.
I agree, talking to God in times of GOOD and bad is important!
xoxo
My mom says this ALL the time and it is beyond the truth! Sometimes we try to control things ourselves but really we just need to leave it all to him!
Wow, so weird...I just did a post similar to this! I love all of this! I've def. been talking things through with God lately and I can really tell it has helped. Love you sweet girl!
I love this Nikki! So right on! I love Joyce's devotionals! I may have to start this one!
I need to be better with talking to God. Especially lately. So thank you for the reminder.
and I don't think you sound preachy. more like inspired. :)
i love this, and it really is true! i hope you can continue to grow your faith relationship this year...good for you! :)
I am so jealous you have co-workers you can turn to in a spiritual manner. I am the only woman in this office in my 20's so the age difference gets in the way for the most part. My faith has been something I've been working on for the past year or so and I love hearing/reading about others' journeys as well! I hope y'all keep it up and would love if you'd keep sharing it with us :) Have a great day girl!
I think doing a devotion is a great idea!! I think I will try to do the same.
P.S. I love the saying at the end..Let go and Let God! So true

oh i love this, and who doesn't need some inspiration now and then?
yay for you for sharing!
i am so with you. always needing to be in control. this past year, well, the last few, really have taught me that i sho as hell am NOT in control. annnnnd, God knows what He's doing if I will just chill out and stop getting in His way.
I am not really big on organized religion either, and am usually turned off by most churches I attend because I feel like I get in a rut, and I feel like I'm there for the wrong reasons.
Anyhoo, thanks for sharing! :)
I loved this! Thanks for sharing :)
I know this is random, but wanted to say that I've really enjoyed reading your blog, especially lately. I'm going through a similar time of "hot mess" and I like seeing when you have a new post :)
That's all. Oh, and I might grab this book and do this devotional too!
I have this same app on my phone and I am ashamed to say that I was totally into for about two weeks and then let it fall to the wayside! I too am going to try to grow my relationship as well this year. I've REALLY noticed lately that I don't turn to him when things are all hunky dory. Two years ago when I was going through my divorce and living on my own for the first time in forever, I found myself desperately POURING my life into Him because I was so lost and sad and confused. But now that I'm not in the same place anymore I've been a slacker.
Kudos to you! Maybe we can encourage each other because Lord knows I need it. Good luck!
Lots of Love,
The NB

This is awesome! My friend sent a few people an email about getting together once a month for a "prayer group" of some sorts. I said yes right away because Lord knows I need it.
