Half Way There!

Today marks the 20 week point in my pregnancy! HALF WAY THERE!!!! If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram then it's not shocking news. Pretty sure this is the first even slightest mention of being pregnant on the blog so it might come as a little bit of a surprise for some of you though...

SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!
I'm having a precious baby boy at the end of November!

There were days in the wee early weeks of this pregnancy thing that I thought these would be the longest 9 months of my life. Probably because the sickness would just never end. But here we are, smack dab in the middle of this beautiful journey. I'm no longer sick, and the days are starting to go by much faster.

Also, I'm basically a failed blogger since I keep making promises that I can't keep in regards to pretending like I'm going to come back and do this blogging thing again. I have no idea how I ever found the time to make it happen so frequently in years past!!!! But I did want to have some sort of documentation while I'm pregnant so I felt a post was warranted.

Being pregnant is just like any other life experience, meaning that you cannot fully appreciate or understand it until you go through it yourself firsthand. It's a fine line with being sensitive to friends for whom pregnancy is a painful topic, which I totally understand - but also needing to vent about these crazy, weird things happening to you! I heard friends talk about this infamous "morning sickness". (Liars. No one ever told me about all day sickness.) You hear people make jokes about how emotional pregnant  women can be. (I never realized that I would sometimes feel ALL THE EMOTIONS at once. One cannot even prepare for this because how in the hell would you be able to???) You're sick, you're exhausted, you can't drink alcohol or caffeine (even though I do have a Coke every now and then), and you're a hangry emotional roller coaster - basically you're a blast to be around! HAHA!

On a serious note, most of that stuff has calmed down quite a bit since I'm well into my 2nd trimester now. It's completely insane to think that I only have about a month left in this 2nd trimester! Now is the time when being pregnant has suddenly become very real. I felt my baby move last weekend y'all!!!! It does not get more real than that! Every single moment of sickness was absolutely worth it to feel my tiny human move inside my belly. Probably not even a full on a kick, but just a hint of a movement from him and I was sobbing. I just cannot seem to fully grasp the fact that this is MY CHILD. (Yeah yeah, I know technically he's my husband's child too, but really this little guy will be a mama's boy. I just know it!) It's THE most exciting, terrifying, humbling experience I've ever been through. And there's so much more to go through as we get closer to November.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything right now. Everybody says to take it all in because it goes by so fast. Most days I do feel overly excited. There are moments of fear, naturally. I'm trying my hardest to trust that God has me in this position to become a mother for a reason. He knows that I can handle this journey. It can be too easy - not just in being pregnant, but in any season of life - to allow ourselves to be overcome with self pity when we are lonely, or frustration when other people push their opinions on us, or even hateful for not really any good reason at all. I've had plenty of those moments that sometimes have turned into full days of emotions. The important thing for me right now is to try and remain overwhelmed with gratitude that I get to be my little boy's mama. A child is the biggest blessing! No matter how anyone else feels about it. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world these days, and I want to live out that feeling every single day.

Now help me to remember these words when I'm feeling hormonal! :)

Tis the Season for Making Broken Things Beautiful

Where do I even begin with this post??? Well first of all, thank you all for your sweet comments on my last post before Thanksgiving. I have to admit that it ended up being a pretty good Thanksgiving with my mom's side of the family. We were all a little worried about how it might be, but in the end, we were able to celebrate each other and our blessings. The only tears shed were during the prayer before we ate when we thanked God for sending us mom to have in the first place.

So now on to Christmas! I have realized something about myself this year... I am embarrassed to say it, but I am a Christmas pessimist. I complain about the season, complain about my family situation and find myself saying "I hate Christmas!" frequently. As much as I try to be a positive person in general, Christmas gets the best of me. BUT WHY? Christmas is NOT supposed to be about me. But I am quite ashamed to admit that I am constantly trying to make it center around me.

I don't have enough money for all the gifts I want to buy
I don't have normal family relationships
I don't have time for 12 Christmas stops
I don't get enough time off work around the holidays
Selfish. Selfish. Selfish.

Christmas tends to make me feel broken. Beat down. Financially broke. Kinda ungrateful. It's ugly. I have come to expect the worst, and that's not really who I want to be. But this year, just three days before Christmas I have  renewed sense of HOPE. Hope in the fact that God is still working all around me - even on the hard days when I feel very far from him. Hope that my family can be restored. Hope that Christmas can still stand for exactly what it should always stand for - even though I try to manipulate the meaning and make it about me. Hope in GRACE!

So this morning, as my attitude was slowing shifting from Scrooge to Buddy the Elf, I had an epiphany of sorts. This IS what the Advent season is about. It's what it's ALL about! Christmas is about celebrating the ultimate gift of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ and recognizing that He came to rescue us from this broken world. I read something a couple weeks ago over at (in)courage and it's really stuck with me. I've gone back to re-read it several times, but it wasn't until today that it truly clicked.

Christmas is the ultimate story of hope, of grace, of restoration. Isn't that just the best reminder??

C

My life can feel messy. When the mess feels overwhelming and heavy (which can be more times than I'd care to admit), I tend to completely forget the redemption of restoration. I tend to focus only what is weighing me down, and then I'm unable to feel God around me. Things have changed drastically for me since last Christmas. I went back to reread my Christmas post from 2014 and I laughed a little at how much things have changed. Somehow I always forget how vastly things can change just within a year's time!!

I think slowly, but surely, I am learning these lessons. But I also know eventually that even if this time of year is always a little hard on the heart for me, God's hope of restoration is always always always here. And for that, I am thankful!

Oh yeah - and in case you missed it - this Christmas I am going to be showing off some new bling!!!!! I got engaged on 12/12!! Even though it's been 10 days already, I still can't shake the excitement. I cannot wait to marry this man. I hope he knows how much I love him. Talk about the ultimate feeling of coming full circle with my journey. I can't wait to see what God has planned for us (& hopefully our family) this coming year!!

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!! I hope you can take a moment to breathe in your blessings and recognize that is always something to be thankful for! I know I will be forcing myself to do that over the next week. XOXO

Thursday Thoughts

Beautiful Things

I sure needed to hear this right now. Reminder from Lysa TerKeurst this week:
"If there’s something Jesus needs to address with you, so be it. But remember, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Jesus doesn’t use the statements, “You always do this..” and “You never do that..” Jesus doesn’t use our situations against us. He simply brings truth to life and asks us to align with it."

Words are my love language - good morning texts, apologies and random compliments change the world, friends.

People on my Instagram keep asking me what kind of mascara I use: 3-in-1 by elf. My eyelashes are naturally long anyhow, but who would have thought a $3 mascara could be so good!! I'm a big fan of all of their products that I have tried. Can't beat that price either.

Last night I had my first meeting about going back to the Dominican Republic for a mission trip again this year! Excited doesn't even begin to describe it. I could end up spending the week of my birthday serving the Lord and honestly, there's nothing more I would want for my 31st. Pray for me so that I don't just make this commitment because it's something I want to do selfishly, but because I feel called to do it. (If you're new around here, you can read all about my trip last summer here.)

I'm dating again. Sometimes I feel like it's hard and sometimes I'm light hearted about it. Nothing too serious to report back right now, but I'm sure you can expect a new dating post soon. These stories must be told. My friend Jen had a weird one recently too!

Do you Influenster? If you don't, then you are missing out! Influenster allows you to test products for FREE, based on information you fill out about yourself. All you have to do is show them some love on social media and offer reviews. The most recent product I tested for them was these Neutrogena Naturals MakeUp Remover Wipes. LOVE them! They smell fantastic and leave my face feeling clean and refreshed and not dry. Great for post workout. Plus, Neutrogena is launching a #wipeforwater campaign to promote efforts to save water. A lazy girl makeup remover is the perfect way to get started!

I haven't seen the 50 Shades of Grey movie... but I am all about the soundtrack! Especially these two jams.

Unconventionally Thankful

Last week I was skimming through my blog roll and came across this post by Erin about being Quick To Say Thanks. I loved the idea and told her I was going to steal it and create my own list. Shutting down negativity in you life can be HARD. Every now and then, I just want to complain all the live long day, y'all. Even on those days when I am in that mood, I still have to deal with life. And the complaining just makes me irritable! But I do find that when I pause to notice the little things then I am much happier. Of course I am thankful for the "normal" things in my life - my family, friends, job, house, etc. - even though I often take them for granted too.

I wanted to focus more on the little unconventional things that make me smile! I have friends and family members who are going through hard trials right now and their struggles can offer me some perspective every now and then. I always want to take a little moment of my day to count my blessings - one by one.

The huge windows in my office. (totally stole this straight from E's list!) Back in December when I got my promotion at work, I upgraded offices. There are things I've wasted time complaining about this office, but the thing I adore about it is the big windows. There is nothing like natural sunlight streaming in to make me a happy girl.

The Pinterest Humor section. One word: lifesaver. These funnies have gotten me through some tough days. Days when it was all I could do to drag myself out of bed and make it work. Days when my life was a wreck. My best friend (who lives in a different state) would always tell me when I felt like I was going to cry to go to Pinterest Humor, and it worked! You can find me on Pinterest {here}.

Mexican Fridays. (you already know food was going to be included on this list somewhere) Every payday, my girls at work and I go to our favorite Mexican place. Working with people who are some of my closest friends in this world is one thing, but just taking that time at the end of the week to celebrate a) our paychecks, b) the close of another successful work week and c) each other is pretty great.

Books. It's no secret that I love to read. I'll read anything I can get my hands on. There's no feeling like getting lost in a good book. It's such a stress reliever to disappear from your own life and fall into someone else's. Plus, I'm still a library regular and the only ways books are better are when they are free!

Freebies. If you don't already know, you can sign up for daily emails that send you alerts when companies have free samples to distribute. Freebies.org and Freeflys are two of my favs. I've gotten so many beauty products to try this way ABSOLUTELY FREE. And it makes for exciting mail days. Freebies > Bills.

Mascara & Fingernail Polish. Because ANY day can be made instantly better with a dab of mascara and splash of color on your nails. When you look better, you feel better.

People Who Are Huggers. I spent a good portion of my life not really wanting people I didn't know all up in my personal space. These days, I'm pretty much a full blown hugger myself.

Cute Panties. Every girl knows that nothing makes you feel on top of your game like rocking some cute panties. Gives you an inner confidence boost to conquer the day.

Really cute, crazy talented, athletic high school boys. Before you go calling the cops to throw me into perv jail - don't panic. These boys just turn into my favorite athletes and I spent many hours of my life watching them, yelling at them and supporting their salaries.

Bloggers like Hannah. Hannah has got to be my soul sister. She just doesn't know it yet. The way this girl writes just connects with my heart and the depths of my bones. She inspires me, she gets my life, she relates to my deepest and most real struggles.

5 Cheap Cheats

It's no secret around here that I am cheap. We don't even have to be nice about it and say "frugal". Let's call it what it is, I'm cheap. I love living vicariously through all my blog friends with their expensive makeup,  designer clothes and pretty things but I am just not able to participate most of the time. So instead, I pride myself on finding amazing quality, yet low priced substitutes. I still want to feel pretty too!

I wanted to share with you my 5 favorites right now because everybody needs to know these little cheats. There are certain items that we are all attached to and will spend whatever necessary to get the real deal. Beauty products is a particular area that I am comfortable cutting costs and trying new products.

1. Rimmel Mascara - The Max Volume Flash
I am absolutely in love with this mascara. I've tried every mascara out there, because I feel like my eyelashes are one of my best physical qualities so I always try to accentuate them. In my experience, this stuff lasts all day, doesn't clump or smudge and I love the way it looks on my eyes. Price tag is about $6.99.

2. While we are on the subject of Rimmel and how much I love all their products...
Rimmel Pressed Powder - Stay Matte
I love the coverage this powder provides. It's enough to last most of the day, with minor touch ups. And for my oily T-zone face, that's saying a lot! There's not a huge selection of colors, but enough to find one that works for you. I think mine is "Sandstorm". Price tag is around $7-8 bucks.

3. Wet n' Wild Eyeshadow Shimmer Primer -
Whatever your personal opinion is on some eye shimmer, I sure do love it. I was a loyal MAC eyeshadow primer girl for YEARS. This is my first go round trying a new brand in a while, but so far I am 100% impressed with Wet n' Wild version. It's like $4 and it lasts all day. I love the color and it's just enough shimmer to make my eyes pop. Fergie has even put her stamp of approval on it.

4. Elf - Flawless Eyeshadow (Tantalizing Taupe)
If you haven't jumped on the elf bandwagon yet, then immediately stop what you are doing and run to Target to check their stuff out. (I think you can get certain items at Walgreens & Walmart now too!) For $2 you CANNOT go wrong with giving it a try! I am sold on this eyeshadow. They have different color selections, and everything I have tried of theirs I've been happy with. I love neutral colors for my everyday look and these don't seem to crease up as much as others by the end of the day - especially when you use a primer (see #3).

5. Neosporin - (substitute for zit cream)
I saw this on Pinterest and was doubtful, but I've been trying it and it really works. Just put the Neosporin on trouble spots at night before you go to bed, and it heals while you sleep. Not necessarily overnight, but I have truly been able to tell a difference.

There you go! What are you favorite cheap cheats?

5 on a Friday

{ONE}
#Jimberlake round 2 is happening on Saturday night! I AM SO EXCITED!!! Set your DVRs kids, because you know we'll be quoting this one until they team up again.

{TWO}
I'm going to attempt this look this weekend....

{THREE}
Speaking of red & sparkly gold... let's all make this our goal this holiday season! I posted this on my IG yesterday and I needed to hear it. I'm mainly giving a motivational talk to myself because I have to go out and brave the holiday shopping crowds this weekend. Every year I say I won't be a last minute shopper and every year I am.

{FOUR}
I chopped my hair off last night. Holla if you love sassy hair! I used to be such a risk taker with my hair - I'd try crazy colors and cuts, granted now my big girl job limits me to these risks. But my hair is fine y'all. Not like DAAAAYYYMN fine, but baby hair fine. When it's long it gets stringy and ratty. So I chopped it. We mixed up the colors a bit too, just hard to tell in that pic. It's all dark underneath. I love it!

{FIVE}
You know we all love this song!
I won't be posting again until the after Christmas so MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody!! I love you all SO MUCH more than you know and I'm so blessed with your friendships this year. Thank you for reading my crazy stories and loving me anyhow!!

Winter Skincare

Praise the Lord my face actually is NOT a hot broken out mess right now. I feel like I am constantly battling my face. As an adult, it's just flat out embarrassing. I am a stress breaker-outer (that's totally not a word, roll with it). My face hates deadlines, drama and PMS. I've always had combination skin, but this winter, my skin has really suffered from dry patches. My regular skincare routine was doing nothing to remedy this problem.

My regular skincare routine is:
Cetaphil for a daily face wash
Neurtrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer for Combination Skin
Then I was also having to use my Mark Tinted Moisturizer to fix patchy dry spots

I am a lucky little blogger to get the Meaningful Beauty VoxBox from my friends at Influenster a couple weeks ago! Sometimes I am skeptical of these products, and honestly sometimes I'm just too lazy to actually use them fully. This Crème de Serum is AMAZING!

It's by Cindy Crawford's Meaningful Beauty line. And I don't know about you, but I would trust anything that woman promotes for skincare and anti-aging because homegirl looks fabulous! I am in my late 20's and I have no consistent anti-aging routine in place, so I might old Cindy up on her kit after my little serum runs out. So at first I was just using it at night to see how well it worked. Now it's taken the place of my regular daily moisturizer, and my patchy spots are gone. It's basically like a moisturizer and primer in one. I have no idea if it's had any effect on my breakouts or not, surely it's not a miracle worker. The only thing I don't completely love about the product, is the smell. It's not bad, but just different. Definitely worth a try, in my opinion.

*This product was received complimentary from Influenster, but all opinions are my own.

Did you get the Meaningful Beauty VoxBox?? If so, what did you think of the Crème de Serum?

Keeping the Faith When Dating

I get asked a lot of dating advice...I guess because I've put my dating life out there for the world to read. I'll be the first to admit that dating at the ripe old age of 29 definitely has it's ups and downs. I'm not a shy person by nature AT ALL, so it's easy for me to go out and meet new people. Most guys I've dated since I've been single have been guys that I've already known from high school, college or friends of friends. I recently started branching out to date guys that I didn't really know that well and then last weekend I had my first ever blind date. I'm lucky in that I haven't had any major horror stories...yet. It could still happen.

I know something that all of us single ladies struggle with is finding "good guys". We wonder do these guys - Like Nathan Scott from OTH or Noah from the Notebook - do they even exist?? I fully hope to walk into church one Sunday morning and see THIS guy with an empty seat next to him. Hey, a girl can dream!!
Taylor Kinney PLUS a beard...meeeeeow!
I know this sounds strange because I am still single, but I am here to tell you that these guys DO exist. Sure, there are some real douchebags out there! I know some of them, I'm friends with some of them. And I constantly wonder how their style works for them. But it's because the girls they date have lowered their expectations, and allowed themselves to be mistreated.

Here's my best dating advice:
1. BE CONFIDENT IN YOURSELF
2. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT
3. BE PATIENT
4. HAVE FUN
Guys love confidence. I know that I'm not the cutest girl that ever walked the face of this earth. But I also know that I'm fun & funny. You work with what you have! Knowing what you want is so important, in my opinion. You have to know the qualities you are firm and flexible on. I'm firm on Jesus, sports and he has to make me laugh. Everything else I'm a little flexible on. Being patient is hard for most of us. You see everyone around you getting engaged, then married and having babies and you want that for yourself too. I get frustrated when I date a lot but can't fully click with someone. But trust me, you don't want to come from a broken engagement or marriage - especially with kids involved. Take your time to know the kind of man you want in your life and do it right. Until then, pray for your future husband. That's what I do. God has perfect timing.

I have been lucky to surround myself with amazing men. Men who would be ideal boyfriends, make me laugh, are perfect gentlemen but for whatever reason they just aren't the guys for me. So trust me girls, these men are out there! And until yours falls into your lap, just try to RELAX and enjoy the ride.

Disclaimer: In NO way do I think I am qualified to give dating advice. Just wanted to share my experiences with you! And believe me when I say I'm talking to myself here as much as anyone else.

5 on a Friday!

Am I a part-time blogger or what these days? I promise I'll be better next week! Work life is interfering with blog life, you know how it goes sometimes. I have had the most amazing week though! The good Lord is answering prayers for me in a big way. And I am so beyond humbled by all the incredibly kind comments from you guys on my 1 year post on Monday. It feels so good to have amazing women on my side who genuinely want to help me grow and succeed. LOVE YOU GUYS!

{ONE}
We got a new mascot costume at work. I'm a big fan! I can't tell you how many times yesterday I put this head on and walked around the office. HUGE head = smaller body. I love it.

{TWO}
(please disregard my disgustingly cluttered bathroom in the background) I am IN LOVE with this Rimmel Stay Matte foundation that I got from Influenster! I don't typically use foundation, but I have started using this stuff and it's awesome! It's a liquid mousse so it goes on very smooth and doesn't leave my face streaky or orangey looking. I'm a big fan of Rimmel products anyhow because of their affordable cost.

{THREE}

I have had a slight girl crush on Kacey Musgraves for several months now, but I love this song of hers! (although I didn't like her stink eye to Miranda Lambert the other night on the CMA's)

{FOUR}

Countdowns make me excited!
*13 days until girls trip to Nashville with Cassie, Kim, Manda & Christa (& meeting up with Jackie!)
*37 days until JT in Louisville!!!!
*70 days until LUKE BRYAN in KNOXVILLE!!

{FIVE}

I have been on such a One Tree Hill kick ever since I discovered the reruns on SOAPnet. I DVR it and spend my weekends lusting over Lucas and Nathan. Seriously, do they even make guys like this in real life??

Happy weekend loves!

Birthday Love

Since it's my birthday and I run this show I am spreading some wisdom today. This year has been a year of great change and growth for me. It completely blows my mind to think how different my world was one short year ago. But ya live, ya learn and ya move on from things that hold you back in life. I hate getting older. I've always struggled with it. 29 scares the hell out of me! But at the same time, I know this will be a year of great change too, in a positive way! And I am ready to make things happen!
My new lock screen says it all
20 birthday wishes + 9 life lessons = 29th birthday

20 Birthday wishes:
1. Luke Bryan - you know I HAD to!
2. gold iPhone 5s
3. fall in love
4. meet Kasey Kahne
5. travel somewhere new
6. stop lying about my age - YEAH RIGHT...
7. run the hell outta that half marathon in March
8. a winning season for the Vols - a girl can dream!!
9. blogger meet up this year in Nashville
10. more craft nights with my girls
11. find a skincare routine to prevent wrinkles since I'm old...or get botox
12. give back more
13. tithe regularly
14. treat myself regularly - massages, facials, pedis - I deserve it!
15. spend more time with my grandparents & cousins
16. more hugs
17. maintain the 5am club
18. visit a vineyard
19. go to an NFL game (can you believe I've never been)
20. tell every single one of you how much I love you as much as I possibly can

9 Life Lessons:
1. If God brings you TO it, then he bring you THROUGH it. I promise, I have been through PLENTY of bad things in my life and every time, with HIM I’ve landed on my feet at the end of the day. Psalm 18:2 “The lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.”
2. Don’t be a fair weather fan. Pick your team, run with them always. Coming from a Vols fan, I feel like I have mucho experience in this area.
3. Hand written thank you notes will get you far with people.
4. Always pick the boy who makes you belly laugh.
5. Cute panties can change your mood, always invest in cute underwear.
6. Love with your whole heart. I’m probably not the best person to give that advice, but it’s true. There is nothing better than loving someone so completely and getting that same love in return. It’s scary, but worth the risk.
7. Work to live, not live to work. This is my daddy’s advice really. I love my job! I am very blessed with it, and I get paid well to do what I do. However, family and home must always come first.
8. Learn to drive a stick. It will pay off
9. At any given time keep these in your purse/desk/car: compact, mascara, lip gloss, tampon, ponytail, floss – you never know when you’ll need those items. Oh and an airplane bottle of JackD – kidding…. Sort of…..

Got my free Birthday Starbucks so I'm ready to rock today!

Birthday Wishlist

Since the countdown is officially on (27 DAYS but who's counting) and I am trying to talk myself into birthday excitement mode, I made a wishlist!! If you follow me on Pinterest, most of my wishlist items go under my I Heart These board here. I would like every single item under this board, but since I'm not THAT spoiled I made a more reasonable list.

Girl Crushes

I am not ashamed to admit when I have a girl crush! I appreciate a smokin' hot female, as well as one who is funny and talented. My favorite is a girl after my own sassy mouthed heart! I'm sure I will feel like a total lesbian at the end of this post...

Hayden Panettiere
I am OBSESSED with Nashville! That show is amazing and I am counting down the days until it's back. I have always liked Hayden and thought she was cute - remember her Remember the Titans days?? I love me a girl who loves football! But since being on Nashville, I am flat out in love with her. There, I said it. She's stunning AND she can SING! I need to download this soundtrack asap!

Jana Kramer
Love her voice, love her cute face and this girl can ROCK a pair of leather pants! When she came to Knoxville a couple months ago with Darius Rucker, I was impressed! Plus, she won me over with her "Whiskey" song. I feel like she's a badass Miranda in training.

Blake Lively
Could she be more perfect? I was never a big Gossip Girl fan, but I did watch her a few times. After I saw her in The Town & Savages, I was done for! She is so fashionable too and always looks fabulous!

Olivia Wilde
I have crushed on her since waaaay back in the OC days! I love a lady with a quick wit and she is hilarious, not to mention gorgeous! AND she's with Jason Sudeikis... can I just BE HER ALREADY?!?!!

Jennifer Lawrence AKA JLaw
I barely even knew who she was before Katniss! She's my new fav sass mouth girl! Have y'all seen her in The Silver Linings Playbook?? Loved her flawed character. I cannot wait for Catching Fire!

 Speaking of Nashville...I can't get enough of these sweet girls Lennon Stella & Maisy with the Ho Hey cover from the show. Too cute!
